Renovation Boo-boo!

Had been rather busy supervising a renovation job for my brother-in-law. It took nearly 12th months! Well its a big house mind you. Just over the week-end my brother also received his keys for a new apartment near to where I live and he invited me to take a look. To our amazement and bewilderment, some silly contractor went to the wrong apartment and knocked off somebody's wall! Can you imagine this happening to you? My brother was glad that it was not his apartment! Just wonder the shock on the owner's face when he popped in to find a wall knocked down! We had such a good laugh but the contractor's supervisor was not laughing! LoL!

Then over dinner rock's brother told us that his friend from Singapore bought an expensive condo next to the KLCC and it costs him RM 1.2 Million. However he was so disappointed with the workmanship of his 'expensive' condo that he was in a fury! Accordingly, the building materials used were cheap materials and the builder is a Singapore Company and that he said made him feel rather embarrassed. Now, it seems he wanted to sell it off in disgust but who would pay that much for it? Would you?

Another young guy, around mid-thirties, who is some VP of a local bank also met me at the renovation site and he asked me who designed and managed the reno works for he was quite impressed with the layout, good space usage etc. I was too shy to tell him but he kept on asking for he is now considering buying the house just two doors away for RM $1.25 Million! Perhaps he wanted to engage the project manager, i.e. me! :)

I am wondering in amazement at these yuppies! Both these two bought properties above a million and I just wonder how much do they earn? Even for a middle-income guy, to purchase a double-storey link house in KL, he have to pay throughout his whole life or at least 15 years to settle the loan and these houses only costs RM $300 to $400 K! Well I guess there are some lucky ones whose salaries must be in the RM $50K per month! My friend who is an architect used to design beautiful bungalow houses for developers locally, told me that he was equally surprised at those who signed-up the S&P on launching day! He told me that he thought or expect to see business people, wealthy people to sign-up but those who purchased were yuppies just ordinary working guys! These bungalows go for RM $3 to $5 Million a piece! Sigh with envy!

The Ring!

I am sure many of you folks had seen the movie 'The Ring'. Scary wasn't it? Here there is another video titled "The Ring" not so scary but don't you ever answer your mobile like this poor chap! After watching this video, I'll share a true story on this! :)

Years ago I had a colleague who was trying to dial some friends in the office. I was watching him and he opened his pocket telephone book, searched for the number then proceeded to dial and after which he placed the diary on his ears instead of the mouth-piece! So this can happen if you are in a sort of day dream! Next time your moble rings, be careful what you are doing then!

Words Which Are Mightier Than The Sword

Reading is one of my passion and I read all sorts and types of books. What I enjoyed most about reading is that it expands your mind, perspectives as well as understanding, the diversity of views on any particular topic. I have collected some great sayings which have impacted my thought life and presumably many other people and just want to share with you some of these that I think are very enlightening.

  • "Is it because light travels faster than sound that some people appear bright until they speak". (Renay Avila)
  • There are two ways to slide easily through life, to believe everything or to doubt everything. Both ways save us from thinking. (Alfred Korzybski)
  • "The people who makes a difference are not the ones with the credentials but the ones with the concerns." (Max Lucado)
  • "Confidence comes not from always being right but from not fearing to be wrong." (Peter T. Mcintyre)
  • "It is said that for money you can have everything, but you cannot. You can buy Food, but not Appetite; Medicine, but not Health; Knowledge, but not Wisdom; Glitter, but not Beauty; Fun, but not Joy; Acquaintances, but not Friends; Servants, but not Faithfulness; Leisure, but not Peace. You can have the husk of everything for money but not the kernal." (Ame Garborg)
  • "The world of business have more bright people than effective people. I like people who are both, but if I have to choose between high intelligence and effective execution, I would take effective execution all the time. This is not to disparage the need for creativity and foresight, but unless they are translated into action they are just a dream." (Ben Carson)
  • "Isolation is aloneness that feels forced upon you, like a punishment. Solitude is aloneness you choose and embrace. I think great things can come out of solitude, out of going to a place where all is quiet except the beating of your heart." (Jeanne Marie Laskas)

Malaysian Patriotism

Read in our local news and came across this statement that Malaysians are Patriotic but some just don't show it. I agree with this statement whole-heartedly, for I considered myself one. For a start I was borned here although my parents were migrants from China. I never consider any other country as my own motherland except Malaysia.

Yes, there are things, issues that I don't like but deep in my heart I consider Malaysia my very own country. No amount of reminding me that I am not a Bumiputra can change that fact! My hope and aspirations will be the day when we can truly say we are Bangsa Malaysia rather than being identify as Malay, Chinese, Indian or Others. Our nation is rather young, 50 years old this coming August 31st. If we looked into the history of the other great nations that have hundreds if not thousands of years, they too had gone through much to evolved into their present unified state.

I have a photo here from kuanhoong showing Three Malaysians flying our Jalur Gemilang ( thanks eddie ) on top of Mount Fuiji, gives me such a sense of pride of being Malaysian.

Yeah! I know that ever since I was a young boy way back in 1957, everyday I woke up to the news be it on Radio, TV or Newpapers the word Bumiputra being mentioned, reminding me that I am not one. My children grew up hearing that and soon my grand children's turn to hear that. I know it is difficult for me to explain to them carefully and in such a manner that they will not be discouraged but to press on with the same patriotic feeling as the old man cherishing the hope that one day, in their life time, when we all will be proud to be Bangsa Malaysia.

Miraculous Mosquitoes Repellent

Received an email from a friend regarding an effective and cheap way to repell mosquitoes! I am sure most if not all of you would love to try this out. This friend swears by it. Commercial mosquitoes repellent are health risks, like coils, vape-mat etc. This one, I think it is safe, just look at the materials used.

  • Lemon Flavoured Dish Wash Liquid.
  • A white dish.
  • Water.

Squeeze a few drops of Lemon Dish Wash into a white dish and add water to reasonable level. Place this on your verendah, patio or somewhere near where you sit in the garden, say few feet away. Accordingly, the mosquitoes would flock to the dish for a drink and later they will just dropped dead! Sound fantastic. Try it out and let me know the results! As for why? Heck! I don't understand and neither do I know! As long as it works let the scientist research on this. :) Remember that it must be Lemon Flavored Dish Wash Liquid and White Dish not others!

Hey if this works buy me a coffee?
