Restful Tuesday

Since Sunday, I am sort of not feeling quite good, under the clouds so to say. Learned from my brother that lately there's a virus going round affecting the throat! That's exactly what I am having, sore throat unable to swallow even water, slight fever and tiredness! Today feeling better, still having slight fever but at least I can swallow without pain! Take today as a quiet day and share with you my Wild Plants! Cheers!

Free Stuffs

Stumble upon so to say a FREE shareware that cleans up your computer such as unused files, temporary files etc. I am one person who enjoys downloading Freebies. I think this is a pretty good software and it is very fast too. If you noticed that your computer is running slower and slower then most probably you need to clean out all the junkies you collected in your Temporary Folder while surfing as well as the Registry.

Being a shareware it means it is up to you whether you want to make a donation to help support the development of the software. I guess many will not mind contributing after all, you pay hundreds of dollars if not thousands for some soft-wares! They are not asking for an arm or a leg but just $20! Anyway here is the link and if you are interested download this and see for yourself whether it is a useful tool or not. Aw, no need to thank me.

5 Lessons for Entreprenuers

Just received this from a friend and I think it makes a good continuation from my post yesterday on Entrepreneurs. Have fun.

Lesson 1

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says:

"I'll give you $800 to drop that towel."

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob. After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 dollars and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks"

"Who was that?"

"It was Bob the next door neighbor," she replies.

"Great!" the husband says, "Did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?"

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2

A priest offered a lift to a Nun. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg. The nun said:

"Father, remember Psalm 129?"

The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said:

"Father, remember Psalm 129?"

The priest apologized, "Sorry sister but the flesh is weak."

Arriving at the convent, the nun went on her way. On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said:

"Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory."

Moral of the story:

If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says:

"I'll give each of you just one wish."

"Me first! Me first!" says the admin. clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas , driving a speedboat, without a care in the world."

Poof! She's gone.

"Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas, and the love of my life."

Poof! He's gone.

"OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager.

The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the story:

Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A rabbit asked him:

"Can I also sit like you and do nothing all day long?"

The crow answered: "Sure, why not."

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the crow, and rested. A fox jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:

To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

"I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients."

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree.

Moral of the story:

Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Entreprenuer – who is this person?

Have been reading many success stories of a particular group of business people who are called ‘Entrepreneurs’. There are no lack of articles about the characteristics of such a person, how they become successful, his mind-set as well as volumes of write-ups on how to emulate these Icons in their respective stations.

Vivienne, posted an article inquiring whether such people, Entrepreneurs are bred or nurtured! I guess people are divided on this but I suspect the inclination today is towards the ‘nurtured’ or else there will not be so many courses, books to guide you to become one. For those real life entrepreneurs who had taken much effort to learn and become successful will say entrepreneurs are made.

Having worked with one, who many in my country would consider him an entrepreneur, I have this to share, not so much about his qualifications, knowledge and skills but more of his personality which I personally believe accounts much to his successes.

Firstly he has a big heart and never forgets his roots. Son of a driver to a British High Ranking Official and he worked as a part-time caddy boy to help his family pay the bills. When I started working with him in his first start-up business as well as my first job after graduation, he shared his vision with me as to what he wanted to do if ever he can make-it in his business. Guess what folks? Not about expansion or building big mansions but houses for the poor who were working in the company so that their monthly installments are affordable so that these people still have money left to live decently! That speaks of his big heart don’t you agree with me? To be grateful and thankful, remembering the deprived is a characteristic of an entrepreneur.

Secondly, his relationships be it to his own peers or his subordinates is excellent because he cares about people. In those days, drug addicts and the handicapped were not given much opportunities to work once they are discharged from prison. He met this teenage boy who was queuing up at the Social Welfare for dole money for him and his granny, he saw him and he asked the teenager why he was on dole and not get a job! Upon learning this teenager’s sordid past and the problems he faced now to get a job, he turned to me and asked me to give him a job! This boy, ex-drug addict worked with us for over 20 years and today he became in his own way a successful entrepreneur! People are important and valuable assets to entrepreneurs.

Thirdly, he fears God! At one time he had prepared his prilgrimage and then a Minster called to fix a meeting on particular day regarding a huge project with our company. That day selected was right on the eve of his departure for his prilgrimage and the Minister would not agree to another date! I was so tickled when I heard him telling the Minister between obeying God and man he chosed to obey God and so off he went for his prilgrimage. The guts to say no when it is right is a mark of an entrepreneur.

Fourthly and lastly, at the prime of his achievements, he decided to call it a day and turn his back from business is something very difficult to do for entrepreneurs! To know when to retire and not be greedy, trusting and allowing the next generation to carry on with their own visions and plans is a sign of a true entrepreuner and so I too followed the same path not looking back at what we had achieved, for it tempts you and whispers to you the possibility of achieving more but to spend our remaining days sharing with the next generation, if they want to know, is itself another enterprise!
