Just an Update

Today is the 'Big Day' for my nephew Timmy! He is getting married today! With all the buzz going around for the past week, finally all these will come to a Grand Finale today! Due to the overwhelming response from our extended family all of us have to pull accommodation resources to accommodate all the friends and relatives for this occasion.

Perhaps due to the school holidays being in season now, many of our distant relatives and friends are able to come to Kuala Lumpur for the Wedding Ceremony today at 11am! We too, are so excited that we are unable to sleep and getting ready for the day's excitement! In a way we are glad that after tonight's dinner reception, and the relatives returning to their home towns tommorrow, we can catch up with the much needed rest, peace and quiet again.

A Wedding is always a happy occassion and so our family grows with an addition of Deborah, the bride but also her family becoming part of our extended family. Expect today to be a long happy day with a buzz of activities starting with the Church Ceremony, Buffet Lunch, Tea Ceremony, Photo Session and the Dinner Reception tonight! Wow! See ya next week!

Your Age and Eating Out!

It looks like I am in for a busy time and it means possibly MIA until the end of the month! Going to miss all of you lovely folks! Just before I disappear, I have this amazing game or little piece of maths that shows a direct correlation between your current age and the number of times you would like to eat out! What is even more astounding is that it ONLY works in this year i.e. 2008! Why? Heck! I don't know better ask the mathematicians! Anyway here is the game, and hope you enjoy it.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat. (more than once but less than 10).

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1758...

If you haven't, add 1757.

6. Now subtract the four-digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number.

The first digit was your original number. (I.e., How many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE ! ------ (Oh YES, it is!)

Leave your comments please, to let me know whether it works! Thanks and see ya soon!

Car Breakdown

Just about a month ago, my nephew's car broke-down! He and his fiance were stranded somewhere on a secondary road between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh. He managed to call for some help and it turned out to be the automatic-transmission had keeled over or 'kaput' so to say. His car was quite new, in fact only three years old and I can never imagine this to happen! Well it seems that modern cars auto-transmission or gearbox are designed this way and needed to be changed every five years or so! The cost of replacing the automatic-transmission was around $15,000.00 in my nephew's case. My brother-in-law changed his just a few months back and it costs him $25,000.00! His car was five years old then. Wow! never in my widest imagination to hear of such parts are so very expensive and on top of that every 5 years? If this happened to my car, I would rather go for recycled parts! Hey! for most folks any car that's over 5 years old is time to get a new one! The reason is simply maintenance costs would be sky rocketing for cars that's above 5 years old! So if you intend to keep yours for a little longer past age 5, try recycled motor parts You may save a bundle as down-payment for your new car!

Unite For Human Rights!

Today 15th May 2008 is the "Unite For Human Rights Day!". My take on this in our Malaysian context is about freedom of speech of bloggers in our beloved Nation. The recent arrest of famous blogger RPK reflects our current status. Many have read the writings of RPK but not many know about his better-half Marina Lee! Oh! the anguish she and her family go through the whole ordeal and the way they were treated by the authorities!

Posted here is an excerpt of Marina's Ordeal during RPK's few days in prison!

Is Parliament Still Relevant? when freedom of speech is being brutally subverted by the present regime and false charges can be instituted against anyone, who dares to demand for justice and truth?"As a wife and mother, I want to know from my fellow citizens whether a government that has incarcerated my husband at the Sungai Buloh Prison on trumped-up charges and brought untold suffering on my family, especially when one of my daughters is sitting for her final examinations, is a legitimate. No wife, mother or child should have to go through this horrible experience when all her beloved husband did was to uphold justice and truth.

On May 2 2008, the 'Armed Might' of the regime was unleashed on my family when they came to my house in search of evidence for some alleged crime that my husband was supposed to have committee. I thought that this can only happen in a Gestapo state but not in my beloved Malaysia. You'd be the judge of this The police came in the morning and desecrated the sanctity of my home for the fourth time. The fact that this had occurred previously does not make it any easier for my daughter and I.I wish that such nightmares can be forgotten, but let me tell you, especially mothers and wives, that the pain will never go away and that it is only our family's self esteem and strength and our faith in God that has enabled us to withstand and overcome the trauma and pain that we have suffered together.I pray that no mother and wife will have to suffer and experience what I had with my beloved husband and my family.

Before we had time to recover our composure, the police handed us a summons to appear before the CCID the following day. However at 3:15pm, we received a call to appear at 4:00pm on the same day.My suspicion for this sudden change in the time for my husband to be interrogated was to prevent publicity and the exposure of their dastardly deeds. Can anyone of you imagine what I, as a wife and mother, had to go through emotionally and psychologically when accompanying my husband to be interrogated by the police when on a previous occasion in 2000, he was brutally assaulted in my presence?

I could not express my anxiety to my husband on the way to the CCID, as I know that my strength and resoluteness would be critical to enable my husband to face his interrogators. He must have also felt the same for me and so both of us, thinking alike kept our silence. But we were determined to see this through together come hell or high water. The Petras' are not some tofus!! We have enough strength and dignity to overcome such adversity. My daughter suffered in silence and despite her age, she held up magnificently and no mother can be prouder than I to have such a daughter.

As we approached the CCID, tears welled in my eyes, but they were not tears of fear, sadness or trepidation, but the expression of my determination and faith that my husband's struggle will ensure a better future for my daughter and the children of a better Malaysia. I am proud to say that my husband overcame the intrigues and schemes and came out unscathed. But we knew that this was a mere prelude to more brutality that will be inflicted on my family. The events of yesterday's circus are known to all. But what was most telling was the deafening silence of the judiciary and the Bar Council, which supposedly are the guardians of justice and equality.

The dinner that was orchestrated by Pak Lah, his Law Minister and other cronies that allegedly ushered "a new era" for an independent and fearless judiciary in upholding justice and human rights, makes me wonder if such an institution that was promised was a fantasy in light of my experience. Today, my daughter and I went to the Sungai Buloh Prison to visit my husband but we were told that he had no wish to see anyone, not even any member of the family or lawyers. I was shocked and disturbed by this turn of events as it can only mean that my husband is determined to endure the pain of incarceration and humiliation of being subjected to and treated like a common criminal for upholding the freedom of speech and justice.

Being married to him for 35 years, I know only too well that he is capable of making sacrifices for truth, justice and freedom. I suspect that when I was told that he did not want to see me, that he would be taking the ultimate step - to go on a hunger strike to demonstrate his determination to uphold the cause of truth and justice.I have nothing more to say, as I am thoroughly exhausted by the turn of events and can only hope and pray that my fellow citizens, especially wives and mothers out there, that you would all come together to protest and to demand for my beloved husband's freedom and that you will call upon your Member of Parliament to boycott Parliament as a gesture of support for my husband's struggle.

His struggle must not be in vain. We as a family will see this through but we will only be able to cope if we know that good and God-fearing people like you will be there and standing together with us shoulder to shoulder to strike a fatal blow against tyranny and for justice and truth and for my husband's freedom.

Success starts from the Mind!

Lately, two members of our blogging group shared about Millionaire Mind Intensive Seminar or MMI in short and they sponsored another member of the group to attend for free! What sparked my curiosity and interest was that another great blogger friend Vivienne who attended this Seminar in Singapore not too long ago, was sharing with me the fantastic lessons she learned from the Seminar. She was so up-beat about it that she even offered to sponsor me to attend the same seminar which is going to be held in Kuala Lumpur in the Mines Resort area from 23 to 25 May. I would love to attend if not for my present my circumstances. I believe there is a time for everything.

Many would have thought that such Seminars must be expensive but according to Vivienne, she paid only S$79.00 for a three day seminar! I guess even a half-day talk would have cost more than that let alone a 3 day intensive course! The fantastic low price includes reading materials/books as well as a set of CD’s! Wow! Apart from being so affordable, I heard so many great testimonies from people who had attended this seminar, including from my three blogging pals, whom I know personally and they have all the praises for the course. Since T Harv Eker has full belief that he can change people’s financial blue print within 3 days, he is willing to provide a low risk-high value avenue for people to check out his worthiness. This year, the KL seminar fee is only S$207 according to the Millionaire Mind Intensive website, and honestly, it is about the cost of a decent dinner!

Sensing her excitement and the transformation taking place in Vivienne plus the fact that I am unable to attend I asked her to give me a short take on what the seminar was about. Here is what Vivienne got to say :-

“Although I attended MMI in Singapore in November 2007, the teaching stayed in her conscious and subconscious mind. MMI is not one of those seminars with a whole lot of hype and rah-rah. Those will probably work for a couple of days and then you fall back into your old patterns."

"MMI has practical tools that keep you on track. I actually do the stuff that the 90-day course book asked me to. I found that I have discarded many of the negative financial thinking and limiting money habits. Instead I picked up some new money habits and these are now embedded in me such that I don’t even have to think to do or not doing something. This is a seminar that helps me to unlearn something which, to me can be a whole lot more difficult than learning."

"I also learn a lot of other stuff. If you asked me to answer the 72 questions - T Harv Eker asked us to fill on Day 1 – now, the answers will absolutely and definitely be different. I have never ever felt clearer, lighter and happier when it comes to my relationship with money. You know what, I’m going to attend MMI again to refresh and re-learn this November 2008. And I know many graduates are re-attending too. If MMI is not effect, do you think we are going to pay the full fees? Let me know if you are joining me in Singapore."

What a great friend Vivienne is! She mailed me the Book, “Millionaire Mind” and right from the first line, I know this T Havr Ecker is revolutionary in his thinking for he said “A lack of money is never, ever, ever a problem. A lack of money is merely a symptom of what is going on underneath. Lack of money is the effect but what is the root cause? It boils down to this. The only way to change your “outer” world is to first change your “inner” world.
