Eating Fresh Water Fish

July 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment

I am a fish person and I love all types of fishes, fresh water as well as sea and deep sea fishes. A fellow blogger Wan Noorizan hosts a health blog and she posted an article on eating fish as an important part of diet programs. River fish is not as clean as deep sea fishes simply because of the pollution going into our ponds and rivers! Many of these river fishes, pond fishes or fresh water fishes contain harmful chemicals in their flesh whereby we ourselves would be contaminated, poisoned by eating them.

Years ago while we were still in Kuching, Sarawak we were told of this local guy who loves ‘Raw Fish’ so much so that he literally eat it daily! Years later, he discovered worm like creatures crawling underneath his skin! Apparantrly these worms got into his body system through raw fish! Scary! How would you like to see these worms crawling underneath your skin? Creepy!

Have you heard of the Pangas? Well it is actually a type of Cat-fish from the Mekong Delta in Vietnam popularly known as Pangasius, Tra, Basa. I think in Malaysia we have them too but not sure whether they are of the same kind. The Pangas become very popular not only in Vietnam but also in France and even UK!

However according to certain reports; the Pangas breed in ponds contain industrial effluents, arsenic, and toxic and hazardous by-products of the growing industrial sector, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), DDT and its metabolites (DDTs), metal contaminants, chlordane-related compounds (CHLs), hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCHs), and hexachlorobenzene (HCB).

Here are some photos of the commercially packed Pangas sold in Germany.

Here is the Link where you can read all the details why you should not take Pangas. Below are more photos of Pangas being sold or harvested and prepared for packaging for export.

I guess you have to check these information out and decide for yourselves whether to eat or not to eat such Pangas. I am not sure our local breeds are as poisonous???

Alternative Medicine for Cancer Treatment

July 16, 2008 | Leave a Comment

For about a year now since I was invited to co-blog at Nurture Your Own, from a good friend Vivienne. One satisfaction I derive from co-blogging there is to hear from Vivienne about the number of visitors to some of my posts there on Stroke. It gives me a sense of being ‘helpful’ by providing some real life experience in caregiving and whatever I learnt about Stroke and Stroke Rehab.

Lately I come to know another fellow co-blogger there who had a great testimony on how he recovered from his terminal cancer. He is Dr. Bob Koh and you can read his story ‘Doctor Who Cheated Death!’. We need people like Bob who continues to use his knowledge through his own struggles overcoming Cancer to help others now. He travels around to Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia offering his services.

I know many of you folks must have heard of Alternative Medicine in the treatment of Cancer and other diseases and illnesses. I guess there is no harm trying this treatment if conventional invasive treatment like Chemotherapy, Radio Therapy do not help. Bob shared quite a number of his successes in the past. As a non-medical person I know very little about such things let alone Alternative Medicine but I am impressed by Bob’s results and nothing speaks more than results. Perhaps it gives someone a ray of hope!

Mat-Rempits Terror

July 14, 2008 | Leave a Comment

I am supposed to be back blogging on Tuesday but alas due to the long tennis matched of the Wimbledon Men’s Singles final that stretched to nearly 5 hours, finishing around 4.45 am I just had to take the day off and tried to get back to my normal sleep routine after two weeks of late nights watching the competition.

When I get online today, I was shocked by this piece of news sent to me by a friend. Apparantly 14 ‘Mat-Rempits’ robbed and beat-up 4 ladies at a Bangsar Petrol Kiosk at 3.30 am last Saturday morning. What a shame on these youths gone wild! Bullying four helpless ladies who stopped by to refuel. It seems the workers at the Petrol Kiosk stayed inside the office and just watched the drama unfolding! None of them dare to come out to help. The whole drama was video taped by the CCTV on-site and now the Police are investigating!

So folks, especially ladies, try not to refuel at such early hours and just looked out for these ‘gangsters’ and if you see them hanging around don’t get out of your car, just drive straight home and forget about what you intended to do for your own safety. The ‘Mat-Rempit’ problem is really getting out of hand and try as hard as I could, I just cannot fathom why the Police are unable to do anything to curb these hooligans on our roads. They are getting bolder now and heard too many robberies, mugging cases by them.

Corruption of the Highest Order

This is one local news headlines today! According to the report, a junior police officer made a police report against all his colleagues including his superiors allegedly over dissatisfaction on how the monthly bribes from illegal activities was unfairly distributed! In retaliation, one of his superiors lodged another police report against him for selling the the station’s properties to scrap dealers!

My Gosh! what is happening in our country? These corrupt police officers have the cheek to make police report on their corrupt practices! Is there no shame? Where is the integrity of these police officers? I just do not know whether to laugh or to cry over such ridiculous news! I am sure my foreign readers who watch CNN News must have heard of the recent accusations between rival politicians! One was accused of sodomy and he accused our Deputy PM for being involved in the famous Mongolian Model murder case.

With all the dirty linens waving in the public eye, our PM and his Cabinet Ministers requested for a stop to all these mud slinging and get on with their job of running the country! It seems the citizens are quite fed-up with so much rumors floating around and I am sure at the back of their minds is the question are all these true?

Personally I want to know the truth if this is at all possible. Trust in our Police Force and the Judiciary is at an all time low with so much dirt being dug up and even involving our former PM. How can we as citizen get on with our normal lives when we have so much mistrust of these important Authorities. Can we trust the Police doing honest job in their investigations? Can the Judiciary perform its duty without any interference from the Executive? Valid questions as far as I am concern.

In the case of the Mogolian Model murder case, the Private Investigator involved had to escape from Malaysia to a neighbouring country for his own safety! This PI made a statutory declaration implicating our Deputy PM and then withdrew that declaration the next day and now gone into hiding. Who is threathening him and his family? With so much questions left unanswered, how can we, the citizens go about our lives, business as usual? We need to know the truth so that we can put behind us any iota of doubt in the integrity of our Police Force, our Judiciary and the Executive. So help us all God for we do not know where our beloved nation is heading to!

Malaysian Stock Market Crash

July 5, 2008 | Leave a Comment

The last time when I was caught in a similar situation was back in 1987 during the Asian Crisis. There was panic selling all over. Now, because of weak regional markets, Malaysian Political turmoil plus the Computer Crash sent jitters throughout our local and I believe foreign investors. On Friday heard so many calls for sell, sell, sell!

If you are investing in the local stock market, are you going to sell? hold and wait awhile? or perhaps buy now since prices of stocks are plummeting! Well, I am no expert in this but one of my friend who hosts a financial blog gives lots of great investment tips there! His blog focus more on our local scenario and honestly, I learned many things by reading the well written articles there! He is a full-time investor himself and from what I observed. he is doing pretty well. Hop over and read his blog and perhaps ask him some pertinent questions and maybe you get what you are looking for! This is NOT a Paid Post but just giving credit to some great blogs locally!
