The US Bailout Plan

This is something that came to me directly from the US! It is too funny not to share with you frens.

Story of The Dead Horse

When Chuck was a young cowboy in Montana he bought a horse from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.

The next day the farmer drove up and said, "Sorry son, but I have some bad news... the horse died."

Chuck replied, "Well then, just give me my money back."

The farmer said,"Can't do that.I went and spent it already."

Chuck said,"Ok, then, just bring me the dead horse."

The farmer asked,"What ya gonna do with him?"

Chuck said, "I'm going to raffle him off."

The farmer said, "You can't raffle off a dead horse!"

Chuck said,"Sure I can, Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead."

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, "What happened with that dead horse?"

Chuck said, "I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $998."

The farmer said "Didn't anyone complain?"

Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his $2.00 back."

Chuck grew up and now works for the government. He's the one who figured out how this "bail-out" is going to work.

Of Wives And Girlfriends

Further to my earlier post on the debacle of the Shanghai Tycoon and his Four Mistresses, I received another rather cheeky comparison between a wife and a girlfriend!

Some says:-

  • Wife is like TV, Girlfriend is like Hand-phone.

  • At home watch TV, Go out bring HP.

  • No money, sell TV. Got money change HP.

  • Sometimes enjoy TV but most of the time play with HP.

  • TV free for life but HP, if you don't pay, the services will be terminated.

  • TV is big, bulky and most of the time old but HP is cute, slim, curvy and very portable at any time.

  • Operational cost for TV is often acceptable but for HP is high and often demanding.

  • Most Important, TV got remote but HP don't have.

  • Last but not least.......TV do not have virus but HP have VIRUS......Once you get it, God help you!

In conclusion, TV is the Better Choice!

The Elusive Wisdom

Wisdom! Yes, who doesn’t desire to have this rare thing! King Solomon of the Bible was considered a wise King and yet having nearly 1,000 mother-in-laws seem to prove otherwise! The seniors or the elders are presumed to be wise or possess Wisdom and yet there is a saying “There is no fool like an old fool” So on and on it goes, this elusive Wisdom thing.

Especially for this year 2009, everyone needs Wisdom in their financial investments on how to survive an economic winter! If you wanna read some Wise Financial Advise, how about some from the famous Warren Buffet? My blog buddy did a post Here!

I am sure many people regard the Dalai Lama as someone who possesses Wisdom and so here are some of his wise sayings but I am not sure as well as unable to confirm whether these are from the real Dalai Lama or just from an imposter! Well, just for laughs anyway.

A Childhood Favorite Toy

Figurine

Today I am going to share something from my childhood or something I missed from my childhood. In the early 50’s in my hometown, we had this old Chinese man who went around on his bicycle selling small figurines made from flour or dough! With a flicker of his carving knife, he could carve out a figurine from his colorful dough of red, green, yellow, blue etc. This art form has disappeared from the Malaysian scene for well, over 50 years? I have not seen such artists since my childhood!

My blog buddy ECL did a post on Dough Figurines which prompted me to do this post! My favorite figurine was the 'Monkey God' which was a character from the famous Chinese Classic "The Water Margin". Of course apart from legendary figures, he could make animals like birds and cockerels etc. The photo shown here contain the more common figurines and I can still recognize all of them made by this senior gentlemen in my hometown! I did some search and this is what I found out about Dough Figurines.

This magic-like handicraft is called dough figurine, known as Mianhua or Miansu in Chinese. It has a history of some 4,000 years, but sadly, very few people take up this art form today. If you are lucky enough, you might find such a folk artist in small alleys in some old cities like Beijing and Tianjin. Although seemingly outdated, these small figurines are still fascinating many kids, who have been exposed to electronic toys only.

The rural areas in central China's Shaanxi Province might be the best place, where Mianhua is still used as a popular gift. At a wedding, the couple will be presented with dough figurines depicting dragons and phoenixes, a traditional auspicious symbol for such occasions. Sometimes, the gift is shaped as a chain of locks, expressing the hope that the newly weds will live happily forever.

The craft is said to originate from legendary times, when ancients sacrificed dough animals to the gods. Later on, it gradually lost its religious purpose, and became an art form. Traditionally, the material is made from purified wheat flour mixed with glutinous rice flour, bee-honey and glycerin. The various colors of the dough are from mineral pigments that are long lasting.
