Eerie Legends

Today, we have a new Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak, who is our 6th Prime Minister of Malaysia. The succession of rulers is always a period of new changes, excitement as well as an apparent eerie fulfilling of a strange legend we have locally.

Let me share about this weird legend from China to start with. As a overseas Chinese, I have a keen interest in the history of China and one interesting legend regarding the last Dynasty of China was associated with the Empress Dowager Cixi.

When the Ming Dynasty fell and the Ching Dynasty came to power, the Manchu Clan of Aisin Gioro became the ruling family. Legend has it that the Aisin Gioro Clan must never have anyone from the Yehe Nara Clan in the royal family by marriage for it would be the demise of the Ching Dynasty! However, Emperor Xianfeng took in Cixi who was from the Yehe Nara Clan as Concubine, who later became the Dowager Empress who in turn installed Puyi as Emperor when she died in 1908. We all know that Puyi became the last Emperor of China and also the closure of the Ching Dynasty, ending 2000 years of the Imperial Rule in the history of China. Coincidence? Curse? Folklore?

In Malaysia we too have our legend which says that the Prime Ministers of Malaysia follow the letters of our first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Alhaj, in short, 'RAHMAN'. Looking back it all works out rather amazingly coinicidental!

1. "R" - Tunku Abdul Rahman; First PM

2. "A" - Tun Abdul Razak; Second PM

3. "H" - Tun Hussein Onn; Third PM

4. "M" - Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad; Fourth PM

5. "A" - Tun Abdullah Badawi; Fifth PM

6. "N" - YAB Dato' Seri Najib Razak; Sixth PM

Is there a similar correlation with the legend of the Ching Dynasty? Is this an implication that the end of UMNO as the ruling Party in the Barisan Coalition? Hemmmmm! Time will tell and perhaps in our next General Election in two years time!
