Credit Card Frauds

Have you ever experienced this? I had! My Credit Card was "cloned" and it clocked up to an expense of RM $40,000! The good thing was that the signature on all these expenses were different from mine so I did not have to pay anything! How and where it was cloned? I am not too sure but it seems that most probably at some hotels where I stayed recently and the culprit was the Hotel Staff collaborating with the Syndicate.

Well that was years ago when I used to travel over-seas rather frequently. Lately I heard of a new approach to this Credit Card Scam which also involves the Hotel Staff and so please read the account below and take note.

You arrive at your hotel and check in at the front desk. When checking in, you give the front desk your credit card (for all the charges for your room). You get to your room and settle in. Someone calls the front desk and asked for (example) Room 620 (which happens to be your room).

Your phone rings in your room. You answer and the person on the other end says the following, ' This is the front desk. When checking in, we came across a problem with your charge card information. Please re-read me your credit card number and verify the last 3 digits numbers at the reverse side of your charge card.'

Not thinking anything you might give this person your information, since the call seems to come from the front desk. But actually, it is a scam of someone calling from outside the hotel/front desk. They ask for a random room number. Then, ask you for credit card information and address information. Sounding so professional that you do think you are talking to the front desk.

If you ever encounter this problem on your vacation, tell the caller that you will be down at the front desk to clear up any problems. Then, go to the front desk and ask if there was a problem. If there was none, inform the manager of the hotel that someone called to scam you of your credit card information acting like a front desk employee.

Funeral

I received this Commercial from a dear friend and in my opinion it is a very good short video clip titled "Funeral". Sad to say that this is a work by our late Yasmin Ahmad who passed away on Saturday 25th July.

The Commercial looks at relationships in a different light - that's what the latest commercial commissioned by Singapore's Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) aims to achieve.

The story shows a widowed wife talking about how she appreciated her late husband's imperfections and how the love they shared helped him to overcome those imperfections. The commercial will be aired on television soon.

Scary Experiences in Thailand

Ah! Thailand, known as the Land Of A Thousand Smiles and as far as I can remember, visiting Thailand was always fun and enjoyable! I love their pristine beaches at their remote Islands of Koh Samui, Pipi etc but that was about 20 years ago!

Today, traveling to Thailand can be a scary life experience especially at the Bangkok International Airport! Well thus far, the stories were mostly from Europeans and you can read the details HERE!

What could have happen to you as a tourist is that, there seems to be a scam going round at the Bangkok International Airport where innocent tourists were accused of shop-lifting at the Duty Free Shops there! They could only be released after paying a hefty sum something to the tune of 8000 British Pounds!!!! Yes, you read right it is Eight Thousand British Pounds! LOL!

I guess like most people we have the tendency to touch things and take a closer look at them and placed them back without buying. This is caught on CCTV and the Airport Securities would use this portion of tape to indicate that you did handled the displayed products.

What came as really scary was that they took you to some security room for further interrogation with threats of referring you to the Police. Meantime you would have miss your flight and facing a possible jail term for shop-lifting! Of course all these can be settled by paying an enormous amount of money but before you pay up, you would be kept in a dingy cell!

You can read the terrible ordeal of this British couple Mr. Ingram and Miss Xi HERE! It seem quite a few Danish tourist experienced the same harrowing experience! The advice given is that not to touch anything unless you are buying the item and can show receipt of payment!

Story of Lucky The Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.' Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had company come for a weekend visit, they would warn their friends not to leave their luggage open because Lucky would help himself to whatever struck his fancy. Inevitably, someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's other favorite toys Lucky always stashed his finds in his toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the box.

It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer. Something told her she was going to die of this disease....in fact; she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim, he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand that I didn't want to leave him! The thought made her sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors had anticipated and Mary was hospitalized for over two weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but the little dog just drooped, whining and miserable.

Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife comfortable on the couch and left her to nap.

Lucky stood watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called. It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand what was wrong. She couldn't move her head and her bod y felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned! While she had slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the basement bringing his beloved mistress all his favorite things in life. He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying. Instead she and Lucky began living again, walking further and further together every day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still cancer-free. Lucky - He still steals treasures and stashes them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Remember......live life every day to the fullest. Each minute is a Blessing. Remember that.....the people who make a difference in our lives are not the ones with the most Credentials, the most Money, or the most Awards. They are the ones that care for us and give us their time!

I would like some dog-lovers to share some of their own stories about their pets!

The Passing On Of An Old Friend

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, 'Common Sense' who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

  • Knowing when to come in out of the rain.

  • Why the early bird gets the worm.

  • Life isn't fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

  • Reports of a 6-year old boy charged with sexual harassment by kissing a classmate.

  • Teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch.

  • And a teacher fired for lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little on her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by

  • His parents, Truth and Trust.

  • His wife, Discretion,

  • His daughter, Responsibility,

  • And his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

  • I know My Rights,

  • I want It Now;

  • Someone Else Is To Blame;

  • I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you remember him, share with others. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
