The Kitchen

The Menu
Literally you are feeding an army here. I guess there is no restaurant big enough to accommodate all the guests! One gets the feeling of the comradeship here in China and the tremendous support given for such joyous occasion like a wedding!

Don’t laugh at The Chinaman
September 9, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Firstly, I have to say that I was so disappointed that Rafael Nadal did not make it into the US Open Finals! Secondly I was disappointed that the Finals between Roger Federal and Andrew Murray was over in just 2 hours in straight sets! Expected Andrew Murray to put on a better fight since he could knock-out the World No. 1!
Well, today I would like to share with you something I heard from a friend about Chinamen! Many people, especially the Westerners laughed at the Chinaman because of his queer habits and the way he speaks English! However please read this story and perhaps you would hold yourself back before you laugh at a Chinaman! A Chinese man walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to China on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Chinese man hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produces the title and everything checks out. The Loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Chinese for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the Chinese returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is why you would bother to borrow $5,000? The Chinese replies: 'Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there safely when I return. The Chinese replies: 'Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there safely when I return.' In closing I would like to add that the only thing straight about the Chinese is the hair!

Japanese Art “Butoh”

Go Solo 2008 Created and performed by the graduands of Toi Whakaari | NZ Drama School Directed by Jade Eriksen, Annie Ruth and Sophie Roberts at Te Whaea - SEEyD Space, Wellington From 21 Jul 2008 to 3 Aug 2008 [1hr 20 minutes approx per group, no interval] Reviewed by Thomas LaHood, 28 Jul 2008
Group C begins with Dawn Cheong's OLIN, an impressively choreographed, Buto influenced visitation from an insectoid god. Cheong's emergence from the chrysalis is a powerful opener and her mesmerising movements are well supported by dramatic lighting states and elemental sound effects.
For many of these young actors, this season is the first time they will present theatre that truly originates from them as an individual; for some it will also be the last. It is a tribute to the calibre of Toi Whakaari as an institution that in this season, as in last year's, we are able to see such diversity of thought and expression presented with such flair and confidence.
For those who wants to know what is 'Butoh' you can watch a Youtube video of the origins of Butoh whose founder was Hijikata Tatsumi.
