Worrisome Trends
From observations within our small fellowship group of about 15 people, the working life of young adults between the age of 25 to 30 years of age, at middle management level are all being driven by their corporate culture to work long hours nearly on a daily basis. At times over the week-end they have to do road shows or some form of marketing and promotion at busy Malls in the city or travel to other towns.
This is a worrying trend for these young people who are so driven that they hardly find time to have a life apart from their careers! No wonder people are getting married well beyond the 30’s and some even in their 40’s. Many of them told me that they could hardly find the time to do dating. Another worrying thing are the many reports on high suicide rate among young adults, teens even among kids and depression among the young is on the increase. Has business competition grown to such an extent that unless companies are selling 24/7 then sales targets would not be achieved? Having retired for over 10 years, I am no longer in touch with all these anymore but still find today’s work trends worrisome. I did a check with other similar groups and discovered the same trend too.
Many senior executives are saying that their leaves are often forfeited due to word load. It is really difficult for these busy people to balance work, family and social lives. To me being overtly busy has its consequences on the person and one day he or she pays for it heavily either in terms of health be it physical or mental plus family and relationship problems due to ‘no time’ for your loved ones.
I guess eventually it is up to the individual to decide, to draw a line where work demands should stop. Perhaps at the cost of less income but in the end having happy, closely knitted families and healthy personal; well being if these are desired important priorities in life to the individual. At the bottom line is the fact that broken families produce angry hurting children which become angry hurting adults which leads to violent societies. Hurting people hurts others is a true statement.

Hi,
Never thought of it that way actually. Guess sometimes we forget the impact in the future and only remember to work hard and earn more in current lifetime. Sometimes, we are driven by the need to achieve more & gain recognition and forgotten to slow down to enjoy what we work for..
Thanks for the reminder ^_^
well written Uncle! My hubby used to work like that..even on holidays, on the beach, he talked business on his handphone! But now, he is much better…
Praise the Lord!
it is scary to wake up one day and discover… that all you have to show for this life are the hours spent slaving away at work!!! otoh, there needs to be a balance between work and time spent with loved ones. that is so elusive – we truly live in a world of competing rights…
hello, first time here, u have an interesting blog..
Thans jen for your comments and yes! its good to remember and not to loose focus in your priorities in life!
hey trinity so good to hear of your hubby’s early realization and put a balance back in life! thanks!
Yes mychan, this is a question all of us have to face one day!
In my hubby case,he is not working due to work load but to earn more income. He have been struggling to work everyday just to pay of the mortgage.:(
well i guess everyone just want more and have high expectation on themselves and career. perhaps it is pressure from the society as well and wanting to be successful.. i think we really need to find a balance and sit back and look at the big picture.. or u’ll just get away with the flow and didnt realise how bad it becomes..
