As The Fog Clears

We don't have fog in Malaysia, at the most we may have mist in early morning or late evening. I am referring to the events after the outcome of our recent General Elections. Initially there were rejoicing in the Opposition Coalition and numbness in the Barisan Coalition. This was followed by some storm in a tea-cup over the setting up of the new State Govenments won by the Opposition and the appointment of the Chief Minister or Menteri Besar in the States of Tregganu and Perak. Then the new Cabinet Appointments with some surprises from our Prime Minister, some crying for being left out or was it jilted and some came-in as a shock to the people.

News headlines in recent weeks were the angry lashing out by certain quarters especially former Prime Minister and one time Finance Minister calling for EGM's and investigations into the reasons for the dismal performance by the ruling party UMNO! Lots of reasons were given by MCA, MIC and Gerakan sort of pointing the finger at big brother UMNO being instrumental in their defeat. There were calls for the Prime Minister to step-down and take responsibility for Barisan's losses.

As for the newly elected Opposition Government Officials, they slowly wake-up to the reality of being in charge! It is not as easy or simplistic as they thought it to be when they were just fault finding with the Government then. Although the dust seems to be settling but in actual fact, a storm is brewing! I am referring to the coming UMNO General Assembly in December! Already there are signs of contention for the top post in UMNO and tradition has it that whoever is the Head Honcho will be the Prime Minster.

My mind is full of these thoughts and unable to drag myself away. I hope that UMNO is brave enough to face reality and really see the facts laid out from the results of the Elections. Change is certain but till now all I hear about is a revival of former glory of UMNO! What glory? Are they referring to the racial politics and the old ways of doing things? Revive that? I think it would be suicidal for UMNO to go along those lines. If they do then I don't think they truly have heard the cry of the people. The NEP at one time a noble ideal has been twisted out of context through the years of UMNO reign. NEP is necessary for our nation but it must be executed with fairness, justice and sensitivity rather than lopsided and benefiting only a handful of people, or cronies or friends.

The founding Fathers of our beloved nation were all men of integrity and their understanding of the NEP was different from the brand of NEP being implemented by their successors. It has evolved into a monster that they themselves could not control and 39 years after 1969, leading to their own downfall. Barisan must re-invent and touch base with the people rather than reviving the past! Now is the time for real change and slay the ghost of the past and evolve into something that the people love rather than loathe or worst still feared!

I begin blogging at A Total Blog, *The Chair* on this topic so close to my heart just after 8th March 2008. The first time I lost interest in it (politics) was immediately after 2004. Just as I thought, most winners during PRU 11th, lost touch, the base, yes, the basic of being a huwman. Kakitangan Kerajaan, I see becoming a mini Raja. I can quote 100s of examples. Here are some: one of the top administrator (Ministry Of Youth and Sport), told our expert team, I was instructed to discuss this proposal, before I throw it into the waste paper basket. Imagine. Another, (Ministry of Agriculture) said, *We do not prefer to cooperate with you from the private sector, just give sponsor to our programs, we are able to carry these out without your help. Then, Selangor and Kedah block us the Intellectuals – Professionals and Experts, from being involved in Selangor Maju 2005, and Kedah Maju 2010. As we see the Government on the whole begin ignoring the educated, the committed, and the young (some statistics are in the unemployed), and most leaders’ nose (UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan) so high up the sky, each can no longer see the ground, so while my friends pursue, and I turn to blogging. LOL!!! Things are changing now, actually in Malaysia, if the leaders pondering where are the smart ones, each will surely come to our company (much like a one stop service center of experts), recently we were involved in an Event Organizing for PKNS, and tomorrow The God willing, we are meeting the Minister of Information, discuss blogging. More shall realize, else, most will be champions in DAP, PKR, and PAS. They can now only promise, yet that promise is so much better than the one scoring 140 seats, blocking our involvements and participations in nation building. I say, be wise…

Yes, Bokjae, in Malaysia there is always an individual who is potentially good and who is willing to share. The Malaysian government can truly benefit from each. If and when, an avenue is closed or blocked, there shall always be avenues for doing good irrespective of color or creed. Hidup Blogging!!!

    Hi bokjae,
Now that the Opposition got what they have all along trying to get, the hot seat of being the Government in the four West coast states. Let’s see now how they perform and measured up to their pre-election promises and manifesto. All eyes will be on them from now on to see how they deliver. I’m not pessimistic but these days, everywhere (for example like in Taiwan where the opposition had just toppled their ruling government), CHANGE seems to be the only constant ! Hopefully the ‘fog’ will clear for the better as soon as possible. There are now more pressing economic issues facing the rakyat (citizen) – rising food prices – that need to be addressed quickly by the Government.
