Station of Life

November 22, 2008 | Leave a Comment

There is such a place known as the Station of Life in Malaysia! It is located in Lahad Datu, Sabah which is East Malaysia and is a place where Christians spend 2 weeks to a month to get away from their usual busy schedule, lock themselves in, studying the Bible, prayer and fasting as well as commune with our Lord and for most find their directions in life.

Well I'm not talking about that SOL but more of pondering on the name for I see life is like an inner city train circuit that made many stops at various stations and one gets on and off. Of course you get back on the train to complete all your accorded tasks in life before you end your journey at the Home Station!

This week, we enter another station in our life with a double celebration! Firstly, celebrated my recent birthday with a group of new found friends from the blogosphere, as well as our youngest daughter's graduation! I am grateful and thankful to the Lord for arranging these friends during my 3 years as caregiver, often shut-up at home, they keep in touch weekly and we spend many nights together sharing and learning at my place, for my convenience! What sweet friends they are! Furthermore, I just get to know another friend from Hong Kong on FB and she sent rock a bunch of flowers on my birthday! Wow!

We both see rock's stroke as another station in life where every aspect of our life was totally changed in a twinkle of the eye so to say! How good is God to arrange new friends to accompany us through the last 3 years! Since we live so far from everyone, the Lord knowing our loneliness, our need for human contact, warmth, He arranged these kind souls to journey with us as our companions!

There is a Chinese saying that goes like this; 'when you are poor, no one notice you even in a busy market! but when you are rich, even if you live deep on a mountain, there will be relatives who come visiting.' I think it is so very true! the late Tansri Lim Goh Tong' is the example, he lived on top of a mountain call Genting and yet so many friends and relatives visit him there! So whether you are rich or poor, true friends never mind the distance! hehe!

Our group is significant in the sense that mostly are seniors with the exception of one or two who are in their early 30's while the oldest being me and others hovering round 50 and mid 50's! To have a group of seniors trying to learn and handle technology is hilarious!! I call the oldies the motley crew! ha!ha! but it was fun and we become such great buddies! We share, help and encourage one another and mind you, its not easy for seniors to grapple with fast changing technology on the internet! Before we fully understand how this thingy works something new comes along and repeat the whole cycle again! Whew!

The other significant part is that our responsibilities as a parent to the last of our children ended with dawn graduating on my birthday! What a coincidence! To us we finally enter real freedom in our early 60's. Well is not that now we do not care anymore but our duty to provide for them till they can start their own lives is now finito! Earn their own living so to say! Oh! we are not that hard and of course we will still be helping her until she gets herself a job!

What a timing in trying to get a job! Just like me, I started working life in a 'depression' too! Not as bad as this current one but at that time jobs were scarce! Anyway we trust our Lord to provide and lead in the current situation. so, we are waiting at the station of life for the next train to take us on our journey and hopefully no more stops until the Home Station!

Perspective

March 26, 2008 | 10 Comments

In life, we must have Perspective. A lot of things are rather Relative. What is normal in one culture is excessive in another. It is hard to say what is right and what is wrong if we do not keep things in context or in perspective. The Streets of London is one of my favourite songs which relates to perspective in certain ways. The lyrics is good and they encourage us to view life in perspective and so are the following Photos which show us how much food in a month different people consume in various parts of the world. What comes to your mind after viewing these pictures? Food

Latest Ladies Fashion From Japan

March 2, 2008 | 17 Comments

When I saw these photos sent to me, I thought these were shots of ladies in transparent or see through skirts! Well, in reality they were not! Actually these were prints made on the skirts to make it look as though you can see through their skirts! I am not surprise at that this latest fashion comes from Japan. among the asian culture, Japanese are the most liberal and daring! I am sure our local ladies would not dare to wear a skirt like that. Perhaps I might be mistaken!!!!!!

Living in Fear

February 21, 2008 | 9 Comments

Received two emails yesterday reporting about two incidents that could turned out to be terrible crimes! One happened to a woman in the car-park of a popular local shopping mall and the other happened to a mother with two kids on their way to the play ground in a residential area. In the first case, it happened with some others around but these people were either too stunned or shocked that they did nothing. The woman was approached by two men forcing her to unlock her car with the intention of driving her away in her own car. I dared not think of what could have happened if these two men succeeded! Could be just robbery or a triple crime of rape, murder and robbery! Fortunately that woman had the presence of mind to run when the opportunity came and she escaped. The two men also fled the scene immediately. The second incident was quite astounding in the sense that it was not robbery but rather two people on motor-bikes approached this mom and two kids, demanding her to give them the youngest kid while having a knife pointed at her. The mom screamed and shouted for help and when the neighbours came out to investigate, the two sped away. Reminded me of the recent spade of crimes involving children being kidnapped sexually molested and murdered. From such brazen criminal activities, it indicated that safety and security is getting to an alarming level. Its not even safe for moms to bring their kids out to play! Both incidents happened in broad day light with other people around. I can understand that people around may not get involved mainly because they do not understand what is happening more than anything else. Of course there is an element of personal safety involved but mostly I believe that without knowing what is really happening people are reluctant to get involved. Another reason being the surprise factor which usually make one immobilized or in shock. I am amazed at the boldness of these criminals. Perhaps they know that people around are slow to react to the calls for help and so they are convinced that it would be over in less than a minute! Perhaps they also know that there is a lack of security personnels (who are trained to respond to such situations) around making them bold. I believe our Police Force and Management of shopping malls must seriously come out with effective patrolling or else, our play grounds and shopping malls will be shunned by people. How do you like to live with such fear daily! Dare not go anywhere but stay at home!
