We used to have a lovely pet, a English Bull-Terrier and we named him Shadow. All our lives we only keep Bull-Terriers or the American Pit-Bulls. Yes they are fearsome dogs but at the same time they are lovely pets and never known to bite those who are family, including children. I guess the American Pit-Bulls have been demonized and many people fear them. Well, if you the master don't train them to attack then they are just the same as any other breeds. We love the fighting dogs because of its fearless nature. I guess no other dogs can bully them and even humans if they don't use weapons.
We name our pets with names of either spices, fruits etc and never use human names for if you have a visitor of the same name like John then it would be rather embarrassing! Our pets are named Garlic, Shallot and Shadow! So I have a video of Rock and Shadow going for a walk in the neighborhood! Of course this was taken in early 2006, before her stroke.

We are a family of dog lovers. Through the years we have had many dogs but mainly one breed in particular. The British Bull Terrier or The American Pit Bulls. Yes, these are fighting dogs and ferocious when provoked! They are fearless, tough, loyal and make fantastic guard-dogs. We never train our dogs to fight or be aggressive but don’t you dare challenge them! Very few people believe that the Bull Terrier is also a 'love dog'! It is loving and need human companionship.
Our first Bull Terrier was Lady and here she is with Rock. This was back in the mid 70’s. Lady died because of a Parvovirus Epidemic.
Then while we were living in Sarawak in the 80's we had another Bull Terrier imported from Australia and we named her Sweet-Pea. She also died of Parvovirus and we buried her in our back garden.
When we moved back to Kuala Lumpur in 1988, we had a pair of Bull Terriers; Garlic and Shallot. Sad to say, one night while still puppies really, at 6 months; someone stole them when we were away on holiday.
For a short while we did not have any dogs. Then I was introduced to the American Pit Bull and after researching about them, I fell in love with them. It took us quite awhile before we could own a pair and we named them Garlic and Shallot in replacement for our previous pets. Shallot died while giving birth to a litter of 6 puppies. Later, when we emigrated we had to give Garlic away to a friend another Pit-Bull lover. Tearful farewell it was.
While in New Zealand, we could not get Bull Terriers, the Kiwis did not believe that we Asians know how to keep a breed like the Bull Terrier. What more, when they found out that Chinese love to eat dogs we didn't have a chance. Out of desperation, Dawn quietly bought Carter from a local Pet Shop. Carter is a lovely, intelligent and playful Pomeranian mixed. We had him for 5 years and when we moved into a condo we had to put him up for adoption.
Upon my retirement, Rock, Dawn and I moved back to Malaysia in 2000 and lived in a Condo so we could not keep big breeds. To keep Dawn happy we got a Pinscher, a gift from a friend and we named him Pye. Sadly he died, ran over by a car one day. Again, Dawn on the quiet got herself a Ferret named Jack! Rock and I were not too keen on Jack because he loved to chew our toes! He too was killed by a cat, we guessed, when he wandered out of the house. Picture shows Jack eyeing Rock's toes! Scary!
When we moved to a house, we imported another Bull Terrier from Australia, a black brindle male, named Shadow. Regulations by now are very strict and we had to go through a lot of trouble to get the Import Permit for by then, Bull Terriers and American Pit Bulls are labeled as dangerous! Thank God he is now 4 years old and still alive and kicking! Look at him, how handsome and muscular! This is our life long tale of our pet dogs!
